JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: President/CEO
Classification: Regular full-time/Exempt
Report to: Board of Directors
Supervises: Program Director, Communications Director, National Communications Manager, National Network Director & Education Director


The President/CEO has charge for the management and leadership of the entire organization and staff.


Accountabilities/Duties:

The President/CEO administers, directs and coordinates all the activities and finances of the organization. Through effective management and leadership, establishes and implements strategic initiatives in keeping with Indiana Latino Institute’s mission and goals.

The President/CEO plans, organizes, directs and coordinates the programs and activities of the organization to ensure that objectives are attained, plans are fulfilled and constituent needs are met.

The President/CEO must maintain effective internal and external relationships with the staff, Board of Directors, committees, task forces, health & education organizations, as well as the communities served by ILI.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The President/CEO

1. In partnership with the Board of Directors, sets vision and initiates long range planning for the organization.

2. Provides the Board with appropriate and timely information on the conditions and operation of the organization. Plans and recommends policies and programs that are appropriate, rational and further the vision, mission, values, and goals of the organization. Implements program, services and policies based on the directions established by the Board of Directors.

3. Manages all fundraising activities of the organization leaded by ILI Board members.

4. Serves as organization’s spokeperson; represents the organization in the media; represents ILI before government agencies and foundations.

5. Maintains effective relationships with other organizations, both public and private and ensures that the position of the organization and its constituents is enhanced in accordance with the policies and objectives of the organization.

6. Establish and maintains strategic partnerships with all the partners involved in projects with ILI and other related health/education organizations. Provides voice in discussion on issues related to Latinos.

7. Makes all financial and budget management decision for the organization: reviews, negotiates and signs all contracts; provides all financial reporting to the Board of Directors. Oversees the activities of accounting consultants.

8. Carries out the duties and responsibilities as directed by the Board of Directors.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

Must possess a Master’s Degree in Human Services (Social Work, Education, etc...) and/or other related areas with at least 5 years leadership experience working with programs related to the Latino Community.

Must be Bilingual in English and Spanish, and bicultural. Must understand and be knowledgeable of health, education and advocacy issues that affect Latino communities.

Must possess very good interpersonal and communication skills and must be bilingual in English /Spanish. Exposure and sensitivity to multiple cultures to include a through understanding of the Latino immigrant experience is critical. Must have ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and possess a solid understanding of social, health, education and other issues affecting Latinos.

Must be highly effective with project and budget management, and must exhibit good people skills. Must demonstrate ability to lead, inspire and motivate staff, Board and community into motion.

Must be willing to work in a grassroots environment and be willing to provide hands-on guidance and direction staff at all levels.

Must have established relationships with grant making organizations and thoroughly understand the principle of fund development.

Must demonstrate the ability to be objective, open minded and flexible.

Continuation of employment will be based on available funding resource and evaluation. Salary is negotiable according to experience.
